Installation Guide

Step 1

Preparation

For optimal adhesion, this product needs a clean, smooth, non-textured surface. Clean and dry the area before application. Acclimate the wallpaper by placing it in the intended room for 24 hours before installing. Allow at least 4 weeks for newly painted surfaces to cure fully before applying the peel and stick wallpaper.

Supplies

  • Wallpaper
  • Scissors
  • Pencil
  • Smoothing tool
  • Measuring tape
  • Level, straight edge
  • Craft knife
  • Step ladder

step 3

Pre-cut strips

Trim your strips to match the wall height, adding an extra inch or two at both the top and bottom for adjustments. Before cutting and hanging each strip, ensure the pattern aligns correctly from one strip to the next. Use a sharp utility knife for cutting and trimming, frequently changing the blade to ensure clean, precise cuts.

step 4

Starting point

Our peel and stick wallpaper rolls have a width of 19 inches. From the wall corner most distant from any entrance or primary view, subtract one inch from the wallpaper width (for edge trimming purposes) and pencil in your measurement. Next, use a level to draw a straight, vertical line from this point. This line will act as the placement guide for the first strip, emphasizing the importance of it being perfectly straight and vertical.

step 5

First Strip

Remove approximately 12 to 24 inches of the backing from the top of the wallpaper. Affix the paper to the wall's top, ensuring some excess overlaps the ceiling (this excess will be trimmed later). Line up the strip's right edge with your previously made mark and gently press the edge against the wall along this line. If necessary, you can adjust the position to guarantee a straight, vertical seam.

STEP 5

If necessary, you can adjust the position to guarantee a straight, vertical seam.

step 6

Smooth the Wallpaper

Gradually remove the backing from top to bottom, pressing the wallpaper against the wall bit by bit. Avoid pulling or stretching the wallpaper to keep the pattern aligned.

For optimal results, one person should position and smooth the paper at the top and along the seam, while another keeps the far edge detached from the wall until the seams match perfectly. Use a plastic smoother to press the wallpaper onto the wall, moving in a back and forth motion from the top down, to eliminate air bubbles by pushing them from the center towards the edges. Apply solid pressure to remove air bubbles and ensure the wallpaper sticks well to the wall. If bubbles reappear, eliminate them by applying steady pressure with the smoother.

step 7

Trim the excess

Cut away the surplus wallpaper at the ceiling and baseboard using a straightedge and a sharp utility knife. Frequently replace the blade to guarantee a clean, smooth cut.

Repeat the process

Follow the same steps for your next strip, placing it adjacent to the right edge of the strip you've already applied. Note: For certain patterns, consider slightly overlapping each strip by about 1/16” to ensure a seamless look, making sure the patterns align precisely.

Important Note:

To adjust or take down our peel and stick wallpapers, begin by grasping the upper corners of a panel and steadily pull down in a firm, even motion, keeping close to the wall. Avoid stretching the wallpaper excessively. Ensure the sticky sides do not touch each other, as separating them afterwards can cause damage.

Frequently asked questions

What is peel and stick wallpaper?

Peel and stick wallpaper is a self-adhesive wall covering that can be easily applied, repositioned, and removed without damaging the wall surface.

Does peel and stick wallpaper damage the wall and can it be removed?

Peel and stick wallpaper is designed to be a temporary and damage-free wall covering option, which means it typically doesn't damage walls if used and removed correctly.

How to remove peel and stick wallpaper without damaging walls?

  1. Prepare the Room: Clear the area around the wallpaper. Remove any nearby furniture and cover the floor with a drop cloth to catch any debris or residue.
  2. Heat the Wallpaper: Use a hairdryer to gently heat a corner of the wallpaper. The heat will soften the adhesive, making it easier to peel off. Be careful not to overheat as this can damage the paint or drywall underneath.
  3. Peel Slowly: Start peeling from the corner or edge that you've heated. Pull the wallpaper back slowly at a 45-degree angle. If the wallpaper resists or the wall shows signs of damage, apply more heat to loosen the adhesive further.
  4. Use a Putty Knife: For stubborn areas, you can gently use a plastic putty knife to help lift the edges of the wallpaper. Be gentle to avoid scratching or gouging the wall.
  5. Clean the Wall: Once all the wallpaper is removed, there might be some adhesive residue left. Wipe the walls with a soft cloth and a mixture of warm water and mild soap. For tougher residue, you might use a solution of vinegar and water.
  6. Repair if Necessary: Check the wall for any damage or leftover adhesive. Patch any small holes or nicks with spackling paste and sand it smooth once dry.
  7. Prime and Paint if Desired: If you plan to repaint the wall or apply new wallpaper, consider applying a primer to ensure an even and durable finish.

By following these steps, you can effectively remove peel and stick wallpaper with minimal risk of damaging your walls.

Can I use peel and stick wallpaper in the bathroom?

Our texile woven peel and stick wallpaper is preferred for bathrooms over non-pasted varieties because it's easier to apply, adjust, and remove, and it often features water-resistant qualities that are essential in the humid bathroom environment.

Can I re-use peel and stick wallpaper?

While peel and stick wallpaper can be repositioned during the installation process, its reusability can be limited by factors like the condition of the adhesive and the type of surface it was applied to.

Does peel and stick wallpaper work on textured walls?

It depends. Peel and stick wallpaper adheres best to smooth, clean surfaces. While it can stick to lightly textured walls, it might not adhere as well to heavily textured surfaces. Non-pasted wallpaper is a preferred option for uneven surfaces.
